Born in Northampton and educated at the Grammar School, his earliest musical experiences were as a chorister at the local parish church; this was soon followed by piano lessons and later organ lessons with Graham Mayo.

Studies continued at The Royal School of Church Music with Timothy Farrell and Michael Fleming, then The Royal College of Music with Richard Latham, Herbert Howells and Oliver Davies where he was awarded the Walford Davies Organ Prize.

As an experienced teacher he has taught music theory, musicianship, harmony and composition, and directed many amateur concerts and musical productions. He now works as a freelance organist and accompanist and is Director of Music at a church in South West London.
