James Lyon is a Cornetist, Trumpeter, Conductor, Composer, Arranger and Teacher from Lancashire. James studied music at the University of Huddersfield under very impressive teachers. It was at Huddersfield where James developed his compositional and orchestration skills under Duncan Druce (Composer). At Huddersfield, James majored in Performance and minored in composition. This gave James a good grounding for understanding both disciplines. It was in this period of time that James co-founded a Trumpet Quartet known as 'Forza Quartet', which enabled him to write and arrange music for this chamber ensemble.
In his 3rd year at Huddersfield, James majored in conducting, which led him to working with the University Symphony Orchestra, Brass Band, New Music Ensemble and Brass 10 piece.
From leaving Huddersfield, James went to on to fulfilling his lifelong goal of teaching, by studying a PGCE at RNCM/MMU. It was here that James' passion for performance and composition were combined by writing music for the young ensembles at the schools he studied/work at.
As a performer, James has been found mainly in the brass band tradition, performing in all sections. This has led him to perform with big names in the brass band movement, most recently The Wingates Brass Band.
James now works as a Head of Music in a Lancashire school and thouroughly enjoys the musical opportunities available.
