Nouvelle|Ancienne is a chamber ensemble of young professional musicians founded in York, in 2011, and led by Andrew Passmore. The group is composed of instrumentalists and vocalists who rehearse and perform together in a variety of manifestations and settings, according to a wide range of repertoire, both new and old. Members are all committed proponents of authentic performance practice, and each of their concerts endeavours to educate and enlighten, as well as to entertain and inform its audiences. Recent performances have included ‘A Venetian Carnival,’ featuring works by Grandi, Monteverdi, Kapsberger, and Vivaldi; 'Bach to the Future: Eighteenth Century in the Present Day' for the York International Conference and Festival at the King's Manor Centre for Eighteenth Century Studies; ‘Baroque-in Around the Christmas Tree’ at Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery; annual UK tours of Handel’s Messiah; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at Ripon Cathedral; a semi-staged production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers with Antiphon. The ensemble featured on the BBC4 programme Dancing Cheek to Cheek with Len Goodman and Lucy Worsley.
