Jacqui Miles studied violin, piano and composition at the Royal Academy of Music. She graduated with a B.Mus.,LRAM and ARCM and went on to gain a post-graduate teacher training certificate. She then became a member of the orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and has been a first violin at English National Opera since 1996. She has also freelanced with many London orchestras, including the LPO, Philharmonia, BBC CO and NLO.
She is an experienced teacher, having taught at the Kent Junior Music School, with Sheila Nelson on the Tower Hamlets Music Project, violin and viola teacher at Trinity Boys School, Croydon and professor of violin, viola and chamber music at the Junior Department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
In 2009 she accepted a scholarship and Teaching Assistantship at Arizona State University, to complete her Master of Music degree and was very active in violin performance in both Arizona and Oregon, being concertmaster of the Lyric Opera and Musica Nova orchestras in Phoenix and playing with Phoenix and Arizona Opera and the Phoenix Symphony.
She returned to the UK in 2011 and to English National Opera. She is in demand as an experienced and innovative teacher, writing educational violin music and working with her partner to produce violin tutor apps. She continues to give regular recitals and chamber concerts both in the UK and in the US.
