I studied flute with David Nicholson at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and composition with Dr Frank Spedding. My post graduate studies were in composition at the Royal College of Music in London with Philip Canon.

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra have premiered 3 of my works including 'Ceilidh' for the last night of the Scottish Proms.

Finalist in the RSNO/IBM composition prize (1993) with 'Scene de Naufrage' (see what the papers said above)

I am a jazz educator and was an assistant tutor on the Scottish Jazz Certificate and Diploma courses at St Andrews University for fifteen years

Materials writer and workshop leader for Flutewise Magazine (UK and USA)

I lived in Italy for 12 years and am fluent in Italian

I occasionally play bass guitar in a rock band.

Love: hillwalking, cycling, opera, sunsets.

P.S. My daughter, Kirsty, is a trombonist and played with Arbroath Instrumental Band and National Youth Brass Band of Scotland - hence all the new brass ensembles.
