Miles Harwood was born and brought up in Hartlepool and began learning the flute at age 12. While studying for a language degree at the University of London, he studied the flute with Rainer Schuelein at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is currently Musical Director of the Roding Players Orchestra in Loughton, Essex, and the New Redbridge Wind Orchestra in Barkingside. Miles is a retired civil servant. He teaches the flute privately, enjoys researching family history, reading, gardening and philately, and is a passionate, if long- suffering, supporter of Hartlepool United Football Club.
