Peter Hurford is a keen amateur musician whose interests include composition, playing Flute, Recorders, and a number of other instruments, with several local ensembles, in a variety of styles. I have a particular interest in the folk traditions of the world (roots music) and collect ethnic instruments. My compositions are mainly for small Orchestra often with added non standard orchestral instrumentation and percussion. Many of these works have been performed by ensembles and soloists. In my youth I took a number of Grades on various instruments (as one does) but I started composing seriously in the early 1990's after doing an 'A' level music course as a mature student. My first major orchestral work Cornish Suite was written in 1992. Since then I have travelled in South America extensively and written works based on South American music structures. I am currently (day job work permitting) updating a number of these pieces to Sibelius 6 from various other programmes I have used in the past and I hope to make them available on line in the future. I have also made a number of arrangements for differing instrumentation of these works and composed other works for smaller groups.
