Seun Owoaje
‘Seun Owoaje is a pianist/composer by profession, who currently lectures at Mountain Top University, and University of Lagos. ‘Seun holds B.A. Music, Obafemi Awolowo University, M.A. Music, University of Lagos and is currently working on a PhD at the University of Lagos.
He presently runs Centre Techniques, a musical instruments and consultancy firm in Lagos. He is writer of several standard instrumental, vocal, and orchestral works which have been severally performed here in Nigeria and abroad.
In 2012, Seun was facilitator of touring international Dutch pianist Marcel Worms’ piano ‘Water’ project, when he was commissioned by Marcel to write “Impressions in Blue on ‘Water”. Some of Seun’s other recent compositions and arrangements include:
- ‘Atike Ayinke’, Rhapsody for Piano and Orchestra
- ‘Erinlakatabu’, Symphonic arrangement commissioned by Prince Klaus Conservatory, Netherlands
- Score and soundtrack to the Render 2 Caesar, a motion picture by Desmond Ovbiageli
- ‘Expansions on Ajantala’, Scherzo on the Ajantala legend
- ‘Jesu n Kigbe!’ Rondo for Tenor, ‘Cello, Preacher and Orchestra
- Egba Anthem, Commissioned by Tunde Kelani, for his movie ‘Ayinla’
He is the visioneer and organizer of the periodical concert/discussion series ‘The Joy of Music’. Seun has also published ‘Choral and Solo Compositions’, a compilation of his arrangements of compositions of Dr. D.K. Olukoya, the General Overseer of MFM Ministries. Also due to be published soon is ‘Ìjàpá: Folklore Perspectives in African Pianism’.
