For the sake of sonority (and to confuse the choir) the canon is introduced in fragments before each section gets to sing the whole line through. There are enough odd intervals and dissonances to give the singers a challenge. The overall effect of the anthem should be somewhat hypnotic. This could be used as an introit, an offertory or even a processional.
