In each of these poems, the poet describes the events, and shares his personal reactions and meditations to the events in Christ's life.
The opening of this movement employes the head of the main theme as heard in the opening movement, and the closing states the second half of the theme sung by the unison choir. Even in the homophonic "chorale" sections, the main motive can be detected.
