For composer, bandleader, lap steel guitar phenom, and all-around good soul Myk Freedman. The first part adapts one of Myk’s pieces, the second is a new offering. The piece was premiered by the Dignity of Labour Ensemble in January 2003.
Like so much of the dedicatee’s music, this piece is at once ironic evocation–of Tin Pan Alley, New York klezmer, free jazz, and more–homage, and contemporary statement. In short, it’s music for people who understand that smiling and thinking are not mutually exclusive activities.
