A set of ruminations on The Coventry Carol. It opens with a slightly unorthodox harmonization and then works through several stylistically different sections (including a stately dance, a fugue, a song deep in the contrabass tuba, a short cadenza, a march and a gigue) before returning to the tune proper first with simple two and three part counterpoint and finally a full bodied four part harmonization.
This is an attempt to write a serious (in intention) piece that will stretch the skill and particularly the musicianship of the four players.
