2004 marks the Centenary of the founding of my Theological College in Durham UK, and this piece is a little contribution to the celebrations which are going on all year. The atmospheric opening recalls very early morning steps through largely deserted streets to the College chapel, with the cathedral bell in the background. An enthusiastically enlived version of the plainchant "pange lingua" leads on to a unison setting of the Monsell hymn, "Fight the good fight". One verse of "Hark! Hark, my soul, angelic voices ringing" using E.G.Monk's tune in Hymns Ancient and Modern leads into an extended "alleluia" and amen" using the alleluias from the Chorale, "Lasst uns erfreuen".
