This song was written by journalist Peppino Turca and was set to music by Luigi Denza in 1880. They drew their inspiration from the inauguration of the 1st Funicular of Mt Vesuvius. It is a fun song to a day out on the "Funicular Railway", and, possibly represents the rhythmic motion of the train going over the tracks. The tune is to be heard in many films, and was a popular "Hit Song" performed by Mario Lanza in the 1950's.
