This is a short piano solo based on Gymnopedie No. 1 by Erik Satie and features a bass after-beat texture throughout its entirety. I have tried to create a composition in which there are very few "formal cadences." One way that cadences have been avoided is through the extensive use of seventh chords. These chords do not "resolve" in the traditional way but rather have the seventh of one chord being suspended into the next chord. There are two themes in the piece, the first one is in the ionian mode (major) while the second is aeolian (natural minor). The piece very gently shifts from one theme to the other. It is because of these gentle shifts in harmonies that inspired the title. I would love to hear from people regarding my work, so feel free to leave a comment! Enjoy!
