This constellation is the one invented by Prokofiev in his Opus 39 (1924). Although my opinion is that Prokofiev used the Double Bass more as a Cello, I try to utilize the lower register of the instrument here.
There are two main themes in this piece, both inspired by the folklore tradition. These themes are multiply varied.
Note that the main themes are played alternating by the different instruments. The individuals form the group and the group is the condition for the individuals to act creatively.
