Chrysalis is written for flute, clarinet in B-flat, horn in F, violin, violoncello, piano and two percussionists. The ensemble piece is based on slow developments of a three-note pitch set. Rhythmic motifs are also developed through the texture and slowly ventures into the forefront. Eventually, the three-note pitch set outlines all twelve pitches of the chromatic scale and bursts into a fury of energy, before settling down again as a primordial soup of a soft and condensed cluster of sounds.
