This text by George Herbert has always fascinated me since first hearing Vaughan-Williams setting from Five Mystical Songs. This version came about because I believe that the setting mentioned above should not be sung by a choir, as it was not intended to be. The text of this piece makes it suitable for weddings, services in which the Gospel passage of "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life" is referenced and in the Roman Catholic Church on the Fifth Sunday of Easter, April 28, 2002.
