Woodwind Quintet: Flute, Oboe, B-flat Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon.

Danse Sibérienne is one of Gioachino Rossini's Péchés de vieillesse ("Sins of Old Age"). Written for piano in 1864, it's a delightfully clever imitation of a Russian dance from an Italian composer living in France. This version for "advanced" woodwind quintet captures all the playfulness while emphasizing Rossini's seeming anticipation of such 20th century composers as Shostakovich or Kabalevsky. It's transposed up half a step from the original f-sharp minor. Suitable for college or adult ensembles or an adventurous high school quintet, it's a fun and entertaining concert opener, finale, or encore.
