This is one of the rags that make up "The Seasons in Ragtime" (available as a set: see also "Pretty Ring Time" and "Autumn Sunshine"). Although the form resembles that familiar from the works of Scott Joplin, the content includes such intellectual pursuits as a miniature fugue, the last two sections being made up from fragments of the first two, and in the first and last sections, bitonality. One clash (near the end) between E major and E flat major reminds the composer of the old epithet "you cannot be serious".
