A number of items influenced this piece. I've been intrigued for some time by the image of Jesus praying the night before His crucifixion. I asked myself, "How would I verbalize what He must have been feeling?" I started writing the lyrics last spring and finished them as I wrote.

In terms of the music, I didn't consider any "standard" harmonic formulas, preferring instead to listen to my inner voice and dictate what was being dictated in my soul.
