Double fugue on first line of Genevan Psalm 116. Second subject is theme inverted and in diminution. Both themes go through numerous permutations including grand stretti at the fifth, the octave, and the ninth. The final entry of the first subject combines the first line of the psalm in augmentation at the octave with the second subject.
Text:
I love the LORD, the fount of life and grace;
He heard my voice, my cry and supplication,
Inclined His ear, gave strength and consolation;
In life, in death, my heart will seek His face.
