This movement uses material from Act 2, No. 17, of the ballet. During this act Prince Désiré has been seeking Aurora and in this scene the Lilac Fairy leads him through the forest to where Aurora lies sleeping in the enchanted palace. Although very lyrical there is an urgency created by the continuous woodwind figuration and the cross rhythms as the Prince hurries towards his true love.
