You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. The Organ Symphony No. 1 is neo-romantic, bright and extravert. It consists of 6 (short) movements. The 1st one is a severe moderately fast prelude with a lively joyful middle section. The 2nd one is a fugue one the same motif. The 3rd one is a moderately slow intermezzo in Lied form. The 4th one is a very fast scherzo with a development (middle) section, using again the same motif. The 5th one is a slow choral. The 6th and final movement is fast and lively and in sonata form with a rather large coda, in which the motif returns together with the choral in a majestic apotheosis. Registration indications (based upon the Hauptwerk sound set of the Mutin / Cavaillé-Coll organ of the Notre Dame in Metz) are intended as a help and are mainly notated as in late French romantic organ music (Widor, Vierne). In 2016 I have revised the piece, checking every registration indication and every bar and I can assure now that the piece is entirely playable and that it will sound great if you follow my registration indications. The recording (digital performance in Sibelius 5 with Garritan Personal Orchestra, not Hauptwerk !) gives, besides the registration indications, a scant indication of the sound I want. Kevin Riley, Musical Director of the Andover Light Orchestra, Composer, on SibeliusMusic: "Accomplished writing! Geert has a real flair for writing for the organ. I know little of the technicalities of writing for the organ (stops etc) but I do know that the music suits the organ wonderfully! The use of Kontakt Player Gold really brings the music alive. It is so close to the natural sound. Let’s hope that there are players out there that want to invest in this composer and get him to write more!"
