During the agonising period of watching the disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis gradually engulf the sufferer, the one emotion that is totally missing and longed for is joy. The one emotion that is a constant companion throughout the process is despair. This movement tries to evoke these emotions using the same basic material for both. As in all the other movements of the symphony my two early Violin Sonatas are quoted.
