The Seasons, Op. 37 Russian: Времена года; published with the French title Les Saisons), is a set of twelve short character pieces for solo piano by the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Each piece is the characteristic of a different month of the year in the northern hemisphere.
Following is a translation of the poetic epigraph contained in the Russian edition (all chosen by the publisher Nikolay Bernard) for September:
"It is time!
The horns are sounding!
The hunters in their hunting dress are mounted on their horses;
in early dawn the borzois are jumping."
Parts of this piece are reminiscent of the horn call in the 1812 overture. Fun for each player.
