It was inspired by the stretch of water called Upnor Reach a short distance down-river from the City of Rochester on the River Medway in Kent. Upnor Reach is where the Medway really widens, and this part of the river has much character and history, including the building of Upnor Castle from1559-67 and the Dutch raid of 1667. This piece captures perfectly the moods, movement, calm and beauty that may be observed at Upnor Reach today.
