This arrangement is a hymn-chant. It couples the familiar melody with chant-like characteristics and harmonies. The piece is written for SAT and intended to be sung a cappella. It starts with the soprano voice, then builds throughout, adding one more voice for each verse. The arrangement is in the minor key (instead of the major key as in the original hymn). This is a somber and simple vocal piece. Its contemplative nature is perfect for Lent season or a Good Friday service.
