’10-50 Blues’ is a twelve bar blues whose opening theme is treated antiphonally between Woodwind and Brass(+Sax) before developing a polyphonic structure as the following sections build on the opening. Trombone, Clarinet and Electric Guitar take the theme whilst the remainder of the melodic instruments play short jazz styled fills. The piece comes full circle with a repeat of the main theme to conclude the composition. It gives the students an opportunity to familiarise themselves with blues style jazz and perhaps start to consider improvisation for themselves.
