It’s the Christmas holiday season, and musicians throughout Christendom get ready to serenade congregations in churches, shoppers in malls, and party goers at festive receptions. Here is Volume II, with 18 more of the best known carols for the Christmas season arranged for string orchestra.

  • NOTE: For "O Little Town of Bethlehem" (British Version), "Silent Night", and "Up on the House Top", the string bass part is obligatory, as it is sufficiently different from the cello part. All other pieces may be played without string bass if necessary.

A Further note: These same carols have also been arranged for brass quintet. Volume I for Brass Quintet is located at: www.sibeliusmusic.com/cgi-bin/show_score.pl?scoreid=115708&storeid=452 Volume II for Brass Quintet is located at: www.sibeliusmusic.com/cgi-bin/show_score.pl?scoreid=115709&storeid=452 SOME share the same key and may be played together as a mass ensemble; however, SOME have been arranged in DIFFERENT keys to better suit the instruments for which they were arranged (flat keys for brass, sharps for string).

Which method of viewing music should I use?

Score Exchange has two methods to display previews of music: seView which uses regular html and javascipt and the Scorch plug-in from Avid which needs to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Both have advantages and disadvantages:

seView

seView, is the most compatible option. You should be able to view music on all modern web browsers including most mobile devices. Even if your device does not support javascript you should still be able to preview at least page one of the music.

You do not need to install any additional software to use seView.

Scorch

Scorch is a free plug-in from Avid for displaying and printing music. It can also play the music that you're seeing. As modern web browsers are updated, Scorch is no longer compatible with many browsers. Scorch has never been compatible with mobile devices and some web browsers on Mac computers.

If your web browser does not install Scorch automatically, you can click here to download and install scorch manually.
