This song, for voice, flute and piano, was originally written in 1989, but was revised in 2001 and is dedicated to all those farmers and business people in the Eden Valley who have suffered so very much from the effects of Foot and Mouth Disease during this year. The original performace was given by the Choir of Kirkby Stephen Grammar School. The reference in the melody to the folk-song "The Oak and the Ash" is deliberate.
