The composer and librettist were at the time lodgers at the Vicarage and Churchwardens of the Church.
A distinguished musicologist who saw the anthem on Sibelius wrote to the composer: 'Wow, the anthem is really something!!! It took a little getting used to how Sibelius sounds … but I think the piece could really make an effect in performance - very word-sensitive (no surprise, given your later activities), and with a freshness to the harmonic progressions. Bravo!'
