The Overture in the French Style is the colossal first movement of the Partita in B minor, BWV 831. Originally composed by Bach for a 2-manual harpsichord, I have arranged this French overture for Baroque orchestra – that is, for oboe, oboe d’amore, English horn, 2 bassons, strings and harpsichord continuo. For those interested in the background of this magnificent work and why I have orchestrated it in this manner, please read my essay on pages 2 & 3. These pages are accessible with Scorch’s page arrows.
