This set of variations for brass band is based on a rather well-known theme, which emerges gradually during the piece, and is stated fully at the end. The title is borrowed from a remarkable book by Roger Scruton, the British philosopher and amateur composer - if you want a clue to the thoughts behind the music, read the book! Brass band, as well as being a medium I am fond of, seemed the ideal one for this particular piece. If you download the score and want to perform it, please e-mail me for a set of parts, which I will provide!
