The MP3 file is a live performance by P. Kellach Waddle in recital at the Church of the Savior, Yukon, Oklahoma, 21 November 2004.

Commentary by Left Brain and Right Brain. LB: "Completed in July 2004 in Chicago, Illinois, this short work was a commission from bassist P. Kellach Waddle in Texas, who requested a solo piece for his next concert season. Incidentally, this piece continues the spirit of my 2 String Quintets, both of which explore the addition of the double bass to a standard string quartet." RB: "This short but concentrated piece melds sonata and rondo forms in ABACABCA structure. Theme A is in A Major, and Theme B is in C-Sharp Minor. Fine and dandy, but after a while everything seemed stranded in A-Major-Land. So I mixed things up in the quasi "soft-shoe" middle section, which swings through more keys than the Florida Keys. Theme C can't decide which tonality it wants, but who cares? Its main purpose in life is contrast." LB: "The frequent juxtapositions of 4/4 and 12/8 meters heighten the tensions as well. The name Promenade implies steady forward movement, and this showpiece for double bass should reward audiences and performers alike. My music is tonal and melodic, but the tonality can vary fairly widely, as the musical structure dictates. It was a challenge to compose a self-sufficient piece for solo bass, but the challenge was most exhilarating."
