This Sonatina was composed in the couple of days leading up to Christmas and was completed on Christmas Day. The original slow movement was conceived as a Nativity Scene, although that was not indicated in the score. That movement has now been transcribed for organ as 'Adoration at the Crib'. The new central movement, although broadly similar in style and mood to that which it replaces, does not have a programmatic element to it (and neither does either of the outer movements).
